IT'S ELECTION NIGHT AT ROMNEY HEADQUARTERS

FOX NEWS SUDDENLY SHOCKS ITS
VIEWERS WITH AN ANNOUNCEMENT
ROMNEY REPUBLICANS AT THE
 ELECTION HEADQUARTERS
RESPOND TO THE ANNOUNCEMENT:

ROMNEY DEFEATS OBAMA!

Everyday for months, college dropout Rush Limbaugh used his superior political knowledge to
inform listeners that the polls showing Obama leading Mitt Romney were totally inaccurate because Democrats had been oversampled. Limbaugh's unquestionable analysis of political polling techniques would clearly result in a "landslide for Romney" and "Democrats were running scared." As a typical Republican, and the self-proclaimed man from "Realville," Limbaugh now has no accountability for his incessant B.S. (A favorite Limbaugh term) and non-stop erroneous babbling.

THE THREE STOOGES

Rush Limbaugh, Mark Levin and Sean Hannity spent 4 years on a daily basis, over 10,000 hours, libeling, slandering and defaming the President Of The United States.
They all said that Mitt Romney was going to win in a landslide in 2012.
They wasted 4 years of America's time. You can't believe anything they say.

Hippie For Halloween

I thought it would be fun to dress up as a hippie on Halloween and walk around Hollywood.
Everybody was giving me the peace sign.
It actually looked this way for real around here in 1967-1969.

Sen George McGovern

Sen. George McGovern was the 1972 Democratic candidate for President
against that crook Richard Nixon. I supported him very enthusiastically
the first time I was old enough to vote for President.

He lost in one of the biggest landslides in U.S. history.

His ideas were 40 years ahead of their time:

Wanting to immediately end the war in Vietnam--
after all, little wars here and there help America's economy.

Wanting to create Health Care for all Americans--
the man must be a Communist.

Wanting Justice for all people--
only rich white people deserve that

Wanting Full Employment With A Job Guaranteed For Everyone--
Nixon taking us off the Gold Standard makes Inflation Fun

Wanting to Ratify the Equal Rights Amendment For Women--
Women need to be seen and not heard

Wanting Recognition And Protection Of All Minorities--
That's UnAmerican!

Wanting To Protect The Environment And Control Pollution--
This Man Was Corporate American Enemy #1

In a 1972 America that was still one of the most racist
and backwards places on the face of the Earth,
George McGovern's positions were left of left of left.

Even the older Democrats thought he was an extremist radical.

In America, when you run for President, you must appeal to the
current center electorate and just slightly right of that center.

A visionary way ahead of his time.

ANDY WILLIAMS

There was a time when the average kid could only afford two or three record albums per year.

They didn't have thousands of songs on a phone that they got from all their friends for free.

In 1966, the average kid bought two Beatles albums and one of the following:
Monkees
Mamas And Papas
Beach Boys
Herman's Hermits
Dave Clark 5
Rolling Stones
Byrds
Simon And Garfunkel

I had the two Beatles albums and a very odd choice:
Andy Williams "Shadow Of Your Smile" LP

The other kids thought it was very strange. Some old man singing old people's songs.
A 13-year old listening to Andy Williams. Unheard of.

But everybody was familiar with Andy Williams.
His song "Moon River" was a classic.
He was regularly on TV with other old singers, but later would be
one of the first to bring on younger acts.

I first heard Andy Williams in 1962 when a song of his made
the Top 40. "Can't Get Used To Losing You."
It was a great pop song and this man's voice had a unique tone with his
easy going style.

That 1966 "Shadow of Your Smile" album introduced me to both standards, classics
and something really incredible. Brazilian Bossa Nova songs he did with
a man named Antonio Carlos Jobim. "Meditation" and "How Insensitive"
expanded my musical world.

And he did Beatles songs as well.

Every year I bought his new album and increased my musical awareness.

In 1968, Andy Williams sang at a Bobby Kennedy rally.
He was going to do 25 minutes but was so committed to the man,
he went on for 2 hours. It was delightful and free.

When I had my worldwide talk radio show on Yahoo! in the late 90's,
I sent Andy a note expressing my enthusiasm over the years and he decided
to come on my show for a few hours. What a dream for me!
In 1999 a TV commercial in the U.K. used his 1967 version of
"Music To Watch Girls By" and it became so popular it entered
the Top 10 on young people's music charts. He was thrilled by this strange
turn of events.

And we talked a lot about Bobby Kennedy.

I have played Andy Williams music for almost 50 years and always will.

His voice and style will live on.

As The Bear would say on his TV show "Gee, Mr. Williams!"

Hiroshima - Was There A Humane Alternative?

With the 67th anniversary of the dropping of the bomb on Hiroshima, the debate
continues as it does every time this year whether America could have just
invaded Japan instead of unleashing an atomic weapon unlike anything the
world had ever seen.

Once in a while, the argument is further made that the U.S. could have taken
a Japanese representative to a deserted island and demonstrated the awesome
power of their new nuclear invention. This is usually quickly negated with the
viewpoint that we only had two of the nuclear weapons and if the one
demonstrated fizzled out, the Japanese would just laugh at us. That would
leave us only one.

Not surprisingly, U.S. history as taught in American schools is usually
lacking certain information. And many generations have an obscured
perspective.

In this case, the actual facts are the following:
Other than the atomic bomb tested in New Mexico, and the two dropped
on Hiroshima and Nagasaki, there was one more all ready to go.

Therefore, with three atomic bombs in possession by the U.S.,
would Jesus have preferred that America first demonstrate one of
the three on a deserted island and see if the Japanese would
come to their senses based on this?

We have many religious hypocrites in America who do not practice
what they preach.

Why Take It Down When You Can Update It?

Joe Paterno statue being taken down at Penn State.

New version of the statue allowing it to remain.

Why Take It Down When You Can Update It?

"I now believe that, contrary to its original intention, coach Paterno's statue has become a source of division and an obstacle to healing in our university and beyond," Penn State president Rodney Erickson has said in an official statement.

After all,  when a 267-page report by former FBI Director Louis Freeh--which clearly concluded Paterno concealed information about former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky's sexual abuse of underage boys came out this week, you have officially run out of excuses and alibis.

This can be added at the base of the updated statue:

"All that is necessary for the triumph of evil is that good men do nothing."

How Disturbed Were You Today?

How Disturbed Were You Today?

For A Minute? For A Few Minutes? For An Hour? For Most Of The Day?

For 20 years, he watched over 20,000 murders on TV and in Movies.

No different than any other 24-year-old.

For 16 years he murdered thousands of  people on his TV set from his joystick.

No different than any other 24-year-old.

Ridiculous! Many of you will say. That had nothing to do with his motives.

Maybe you should think about it this time.

Beach Boys 50th Anniversary

It was 50 years ago today that I heard a new sound on the radio.
The song was "Surfin' Safari" by a group calling itself The Beach Boys
and it had a unique style which was unlike anything else in 1962.

It immediately created visions of surfing in California and although
there had been electric guitar-oriented instrumental rock-style sounds before,
it added something else----complex vocal harmonies emphasizing falsetto
high pitched male voices.

The Beach Boys had their first of many hits which would go global and
establish a Southern California lifestyle of hot cars, hot beaches and hot women
that everybody else could only dream about.

Backed up by ten musicians, the originals Brian Wilson-the remaining Wilson brother
and Mike Love, Al Jardine and Bruce Johnston were able to recreate their magic
for a sold-out house of over 20,000 at the Hollywood Bowl.

Primarily an audience of people  from 45-70, there was also an abundance of
20-30 year olds that also wanted to experience this musical legend.

They performed over 40 songs and still could not begin to perform all
of their popular songs.

As Brian, Mike and Al are featured on a majority of their most legendary singles
(and Brian can fill-in for Carl) it was amazing and comforting to hear the exact same voices
from 50 years ago.

The Beach Boys has never been a band that has the girls insanely screaming.
Instead, they have always had both females and males yelling enthusiastically,
dancing, partying and carrying on. That's what happened again last night
at the Hollywood Bowl.

I saw someone wearing a T-shirt which said "Thank God For Brian Wilson."
It was his vision, his sound, his writing and producing which continues
to bring great joy to millions around the world.

Memorial Day - Vietnam Still A Touchy Issue

When I visited the Vietnam Veteran's Memorial a few years ago, I came across a vet and asked him to verify what I had been telling a younger friend of mine (almost my age but enough years younger to have no significant knowledge of what happened) regarding how vets were treated when they came home.

My friend was shocked when this Vietnam vet told him exactly what I already had.

To this day it is still impossible to discuss Vietnam without getting emotional and worked up.

As time passes, there is more and more evidence that the United States should have
stayed out of this civil war which was unwinnable. President John F. Kennedy, who realized the same thing, was in the process of  formulating a withdrawal of  all of America's "advisors" to
Vietnam when he was assassinated.

By 1968, with 500,000 American soldiers dealing with the Tet Offensive, LBJ was considering sending in another 200,000 troops. He wisely did not and the fact has become a little known one.

Former Secretary of Defense Robert McNamara, one of the architects of the Vietnam War,
summed up his true feelings many years later:
"We were wrong, terribly wrong about the Vietnam War."

Yes, a very small number of Vietnam Vets were "baby killers" such as those who
served under William Calley as they murdered 500 unarmed men, women,
children and babies in cold blood in a tiny Vietnamese hamlet.

The majority were average American kids, whose government told them that
they were fighting for another man's freedom and democracy, and they
went off with the purest of intentions and commitment. And returned to
a "bizarro" America where nothing made any sense.

Today's young people are not quite as trusting of what Uncle Sam tells them.

The Scam Company Who Won't Reveal Who They Are

QUIT YOUR JOB! WORK AT HOME! A FEW HOURS A WEEK!
REPLACE YOUR COMPLETE INCOME AT income at home.com!

ALL DAY AND NIGHT IN AMERICA ON TALK RADIO,
AMERICANS MUST LISTEN TO COMMERCIALS FROM A
COMPANY CALLED    INCOME AT HOME.COM

The annoying commercials which run non-stop and are endorsed by
irresponsible right-wingers like Sean Hannity (who makes a fortune off
the commercials being run on his show) emphasize a few points:

*You can replace the income from your job (and your spouse's)
*Work at home -- set your own hours
*No experience necessary
*You won't be selling soap

The initial CD package is only $9.95!!!

Yet they never say what company it is, what you'll be doing
or the fact that 95% of the people who get involved in this
"opportunity" will never make a cent.

No, you won't be selling soap. You'll be selling HERBALIFE.

And the initial CD still will not tell you what you'll be doing or
who you will be involved with. It will cost you an
additional $39.95 to find out that information. And once you
pay that, you'll absolutely need other "marketing tools"
which will cost you anywhere from hundreds to thousands to
properly take advantage of this incredible opportunity.

Oh, by the way. If you do not return the initial CD package
within 14 days--you automatically get charged an additional
$39.95 which you unknowingly agreed to in the small print.

Any company that won't reveal who they are or what they do
even after you spend $9.95, is a scam.

This company continues to make income off of desperate
Americans by charging them $9.95 and then $39.95 to
find out who they even are.

A few million a month in these questionable fees equals
lots and lots of commercials that run non-stop on
right-wing talkers who personally benefit from ad time.

HERBALIFE may have some fine weight loss, nutrition and
personal care products.

They don't need to be scamming desperate Americans
to spend money they don't have to become a
distributor through deceptive and misleading radio ads.

95% of those who start with this incredible "opportunity"
will make nothing, with most losing hundreds or
thousands of the little money they don't have.

LINKS THAT VERIFY THIS:

If the ads came right out and said:
"We Are Herbalife--a marketer of weight loss, nutrition and
personal care products. Would you like to become a
distributor? Here is a website for more information"

instead of scamming people to send $9.95 for a CD
which explains nothing further and charging them
$39.95 when it is not returned within 14 days

then it would be legitimate.

In the meantime, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck,  Dr. Laura,  Mark Levin, Michael Savage and other right wingers are clearly demonstrating their total lack of ethics by
allowing these ads to run on their shows.

Dick Clark - Bandstand In The Sky

The most important accomplishment of Dick Clark is that he gave respectability
to rock 'n' roll music -- which parents hated, despised and were afraid of.

Through his "American Bandstand" TV show, he presented rock 'n' roll music
in a squeaky clean way which softened parents' attitudes.

He was so wholesome and All-American, a parent couldn't help but give-in when
the kids were begging to be able to watch on the only TV set in the house.

Ryan Seacrest does not replace Dick Clark. Or even come close.

Davy Jones

In 1965, a year before the Monkees premiered on NBC, I heard a song on
powerhouse WLS in Chicago. It was called "What Are We Going to Do?"
and was by some fellow named David Jones. The British voice was distinctive,
emotional and I couldn't get the song out of my head:

"What are we going to do if the word gets out,
what are we going to do if it gets about,
What are we going to do when your dad finds out we're in love"

WLS premiered many songs for the rest of the nation and
this was just one of them. The song was played for a few weeks
and then went away, not getting any response.
The song was forgotten, and I was probably one of very few
that even noticed.

A year later in September 1966, I heard that same distinctive
voice singing on the hits of the super pop group The Monkees.

Nobody ever brought it up or even mentioned it on the radio or
in any of the publicity. It was like they wanted to pretend it never
existed. He was just a member of this new fabulous rock band.

Davy would become the superstar of The Monkees.
He was funny, always got the girl and he would become
a timeless performer connected with the band.

I am so glad I got to see him last summer in The Monkees 45th tour.

The Monkees were The Marx Brothers for the Baby Boomers and
they had great music on top of it.

They have always represented FUN in its highest degree.

The worldwide reaction to Davy Jones' passing today, the
member of a TV sitcom and band that was only around for
2 years--starting almost 50 years ago--is a commentary on the state
of entertainment today.

Who does not love "Daydream Believer" ???

The Vietnam War was raging, the country was going through
turbulent times and you always could rely on Davy in your living
room once a week and on the radio/record player the rest of the week to
bring you a great deal of happiness.

Marcia Brady was right.

The Right Wing Assault On Religious Freedom Continues

The hypocritical right-winged fundamentalists in America are all for
Freedom Of Religion--as long it's their religion that is being promoted.

The case of a man in Iran who converted from Islam to Christianity has
become a major cause for them because the government has sentenced him
to death for doing so. Their efforts should be applauded, but another case
running simultaneously in America clearly shows their hypocrisy.

Jessica Ahlquist, a 16-year-old high school student in Rhode Island has
won her lawsuit against her high school that now must remove a banner
hanging in the school gym for 50 years which promotes a particular religion--
Christianity.

The girl is being viciously verbally attacked in her town, on the internet and the
police are even investigating serious threats against her.
State Rep. Peter Polombo called Alhquist “an evil little thing” on a local
radio show. This is a man who swore an oath to defend the
Constitution of the United States which makes it clear that
the government cannot promote religion. The public school is
a government facility.

What do you right wingers not understand about the First Amendment?

You have the right to any religion you want in America and the
right to have no religion at all. And the schools cannot select one
religion and promote it. Schools are for teaching and not preaching.

My 15 Minute Trip Today To New York And Chicago

Today I took a 15 minute trip to New York and Chicago.

What??? How can that be?

I was over at Paramount Studios in Hollywood and got
a special visit to some of the sets. It was an unusually
windy day.

Well at least on ABC's "Happy Endings"

Paul McCartney Gets A Star In Hollywood

Paul McCartney received his star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame this afternoon
in front of the Capitol Records building. Approximately 1000 of us lifelong
Beatles fans were there in a sea of Fab Four T-shirts. About 25 police were
there to deal with the enthusiastic crowd, but there presence was not
really needed with a crowd of cooperative fans ranging from small children
all the way up to their Baby Boomer grandparents.

Paul looked wonderful just shy of turning 70 and was introduced by
Neil Young who is definitely showing his age.
Paul said Ringo was not feeling well but had intended to come.
He gave a short speech thanking his fans and the city of Hollywood.
February 9 holds a significant place in Paul's life.
48 years ago today, The Beatles made their debut on
Ed Sullivan's TV show kicking off Beatlemania in the U.S.

Boycott Apple

Explosions, Suicides, 12-hours a day/6 day work weeks, Exposure to dangerous chemicals, Standing Up the entire day and Deaths--Just an average week for the Chinese employees making your Apple Iphones and Ipads.

Are you going to be the typical American who doesn't care about some Chinese slave laborer working on the other side of the planet as long as you can buy your new toy?

Or are you going to ask Apple to make the necessary changes and enforce decent working conditions?

Newt Gingrich And The South Carolina Hypocrites

You would think that the Conservatives and Right-Winged Evangelicals in South Carolina would have had one priority in their selection of a President in today's primary:

The person with the greatest integrity, morals and ethics.

Demonstrating their ultimate hypocrisy, they selected the despicable Newt Gingrich
over Mitt Romney as the man they would like to see as President.

Disregarding the man's marriage record (which one?) and immersion in some
of the most corrupt politics of the last 30 years, these dedicated Christians want
the man most likely to turn America into a theocracy of their choosing.

That's their agenda and it says a great deal about many people in this country.

Showing How Much They Really Care

The Republican candidates in Iowa spent a total of $12.5 million for TV ads leading up to the state caucus vote.

They spent this money to run ads telling the voters how in tune they were with the American public and how understanding they were of what they were all going through.

What if all of the candidates had decided:
We will all win or lose on our individual merits. None of us will run TV ads.
Instead, we'll donate the money to:

Homeless people in Iowa
Starving people in Iowa
People that cannot afford to see a doctor in Iowa
Education programs in Iowa
Recreation programs for needy children in Iowa
Job creation in Iowa

That would have been just too much to ask.

This chart shows how much it cost to get each vote
for each candidate from the $12.5 million:

Woody Allen And His Other Hobby

If you are a fan of Woody Allen films, you are accustomed to the Dixie-style jazz that accompanies many of the soundtracks. And you are also aware that the great film talent has another very serious pursuit--playing clarinet with a group that gets together on a regular basis (you may remember he didn't accept his Best Direct Oscar because he was playing with the band that night in N.Y.).

After years of curiosity, I finally got to hear Woody Allen and His New Orleans Jazz Band as they performed tonight at Royce Hall at UCLA in Los Angeles to a sell-out crowd.

This was a polished, first-rate Dixieland jazz band which happens to have a very famous film actor-director-writer playing the clarinet parts. It was like listening to a live score being prepared for one of his movies.

It was delightful, comprehensive and highly professional.

Other than thanking the audience for coming at the beginning and introducing the
band members at the end, Woody focuses solely on being a member of the band made
up of piano, drums, banjo, trombone, trumpet and his clarinet.

Can he really play that thing? If he hadn't become a filmmaker,
he could be making a living as a top-rate clarinet player who
can handle some pretty dynamic solos.

Should you ever get a chance (I'd been waiting 40 years), you'll want to
see the musical side of Woody Allen.

Kim Jong Il is Not Ill Any More

It's easy to make fun of Kim Jung Il, the newly dead
dictatorial leader of North Korea. And that's what most
media is doing in the last few days since the announcement
of his death.

It's harder to think about the 25 million people that have
been enslaved in this Orwellian nightmare of a country.
Most can say nothing out of fear and many have been
brainwashed.

When the TV and radio's only programming 24 hours a day
tells you how wonderful the great leader is; when anybody who
even criticized him or his father were thrown into re-education
camps where they were tortured and abused; when millions have
starved to death while he rewards himself with millions of dollars
of imported caviar and cognac every year; when people's lives
are watched by the minute by big brother in a police state with
absolutely no freedom...

it's easier to just ridicule the little dictator and not pressure
your own government into taking action to try and make
changes in that backwards society.

The new leader, his young son, will either be a psychotic maniac
just like his dad, or maybe he will want to make some long overdue
positive changes in this little piece of hell on earth.

What Baby Boomers Didn't See - Little Rascals

What Baby Boomers Didn't See - Little Rascals

A whole generation of baby boomer kids grew up watching "The Little Rascals"
on TV beginning in 1955 and continuing through the mid-60's.

They watched over and over, a syndicated package of 80 comedy shorts
produced by Hal Roach that were originally produced for movie theaters
and shown in-between movies during 1929 and 1939.

The shows that Baby Boomers saw on TV sent out an important message that
molded the character of that new generation.
White kids play with black kids and everybody is treated equally.

I watched the shows daily on WGN-TV Channel 9 in Chicago as kids
all over America did on their local station.

But apparently, our parents and their parents who were sitting in the
movie theaters in the 1930's saw "The Little Rascals" very differently.

For the first time, all 80 of the shorts have been recently been made
available on DVD in their original and unedited versions.

I have just watched one a night for 80 nights.

Some of them are quite shocking. Many of them have scenes that are
outright racist to the limit.

"I don't remember seeing that scene," I said to myself upon viewing these
for the first time since the early 1960's.

A little research explained everything.

Out of the 80 shorts that were syndicated to TV,
23 of them were heavily edited to remove racist content.
6 of them were so racist that they were removed from the
package in their entirety and never seen by a whole
generation of kids. One was never seen because it dealt with
the subject of divorce.

This means that almost one half of the original versions
were heavily edited or removed completely for racist content.

Before you say, "who cared enough in 1955 to remove racist content?,"
somebody at the syndication company was sensitive and smart enough
to do it. They made a conscious decision that a whole generation of
kids seeing these for the very first time were not going to see this
racist material.

However, the obvious is clear.

The parents of the baby boomers saw the originals in the movie theaters
and it served to reinforce bigoted and prejudice attitudes in that generation.

They probably did not realize that was happening, but it was.

A majority of the edited parts are quite shocking.

And it makes you wonder.

The original intentions were quite noble.

The Little Rascals was popular and still is to this day because it
shows kids just acting as kids.

It showed both white and black kids playing together, scheming together,
having old fashioned fun together and everybody treats each other equally.

At least that's what baby boomers saw.

Why they had to ruin it for the kids of the 30's with such racist material
left in is something to ponder. In that time and place, the studios must
have thought they were being funny and nobody said anything otherwise.

Otherwise, seeing the clothing, houses, cars and related styles of the 1930's
is just wonderful. And so is the fact that kids can play on the streets of a
big city without parents worrying about anything, kids not using profanity
non-stop, and all the rest.

The edited "Little Rascals" is still charming after 80 years.

Users Of The New iphone 4s Have Unknowingly Committed To Allowing Fox News/News Corp. To Hack Into Their Phones

AP News - Cupertino, CA
Users Of The New iphone 4s Have Unknowingly
Committed To Allowing Fox News/News Corp.
To Hack Into Their Phones At Anytime

By Michael Y. Park

In a recent much publicized meeting between
late Apple founder Steve Jobs and
Fox News/News Corp. CEO
Rupert Murdoch, an agreement was reached
that will allow Fox News and News Corp. to
hack into the phones of anybody that signed up
for the newest version of the popular device.

However, the details were contained in such

tiny print that consumers have failed to even read
or notice the insertion in the newest contract.

AP has obtained a copy of the seven page
contract which consumers sign when purchasing
the newest model of the phone and subsequent cell
service. The paragraph is hidden among other
standard cell phone terms.

"Signee of this agreement will allow both
Fox News/News Corp. to hack into their phone
at anytime, anyplace and anywhere during the
term of this contract. Signee agrees that audio
conversations recorded may be used for any
purpose by any affiliate of Fox News/News Corp."

Upon contacting Rupert Murdoch, AP was
given the following statement.
"I guess you guys found it. You know that phone
hacking scandal that cost us pending business deals and required me to act like I really cared about the
murdered teenage girl whose phone we hacked into,
well that cost us $3.2 million to her family to pretend
we really were sorry, that's a lot of change we could
be using to spread our right-winged propaganda!
My sons and I figured that the only way to continue
to hack into people's phones was to do it legally--
but very quietly. So we worked out this deal and
we can now hack into the phones of millions of people
without them knowing anything about it!
This story won't be covered on Fox News or any
of our other sleazy media outlets, so we have nothing
to worry about."

AP employees were immediately instructed to
get rid of their new iphone 4s and purchase
Android phones instead.

Typecasting In Hollywood - It Does Ruin Movies

Many performers who had strong characters in hit TV shows find out that no producer will hire them for another TV show and especially not for a movie.

One of the greatest examples is Carroll O'Connor, who played the role of Archie Bunker on "All In the Family." Although he had appeared in dozens of movies and TV shows in character parts for 10 years previous to that show, he became forever associated as Archie Bunker.

No movie producer would hire him as you'd be watching the movie and suddenly you would be thrown out of the film's reality because Archie Bunker walked into the room.
I had this happen a few months ago when I watched for the first time a John Wayne movie from the 60's about Pearl Harbor titled "In Harm's Way." It was an excellent dramatic movie -- until in the middle of a serious discussion out on a navy ship at sea, Archie Bunker walked into the room.

Carroll O'Connor couldn't even get another TV show until he himself proposed to be the producer and head actor for a TV version of "In the Heat of the Night," which allowed him to be a character with some similarities to Archie Bunker.

George Reeves who played TV's "Superman" also had the same experience.
As have hundreds of others. Bob Denver couldn't get anything after "Gilligan."

I had the ultimate TV-character-ruins-movie experience the other night.

I finally obtained a copy of the 1964 light drama/comedy, "Dear Heart," starring Glenn Ford and Geraldine Page. The film has never been out on DVD and was only out for a few months on VHS a short time in the 90's. The VHS copies range from $35.--$300. on Ebay.
The film about two lonely middle-aged people looking for love was a modest hit back in 1964, but is rarely seen anywhere since. I don't know why. The movie about an uncomfortable adult love affair (they actually had those back in the 50's and 60's before "Love Story" set the trend that only young people fall in love) was captivating--until--

Mrs. Kravitz walked into the room.

You remember Mrs. Kravitz. She was the nosy neighbor on "Bewitched" who saw the unexplainable happenings at the Stevens' house and every time she called her husband to come to the window, nothing was happening. Mrs. Kravitz was a very over-the-top character.

In the movie, Geraldine Page's character is being pressured by a group of middle-aged women to join them as they have already have given up on love and do everything together instead.

When Page's character suddenly talks to Gladys Kravitz (actress Alice Pearce), the entire reality of the movie stops. You can't stop thinking "why is she talking to Gladys Kravitz?"

That made it difficult to get back into the movie. Then it got even worse.

Gladys Kravitz turns to a member of her women's gang.
I was stunned at that moment.
The woman she turns to is Gladys Kravitz #2!!!

You may remember that just like the role of Darrin Stevens changed in the
"Bewitched" series, the part of Gladys Kravitz also changed.
Actress Sandra Gould took over the part of Gladys Kravitz when
Alice Pearce suddenly died.

That really destroyed the momentum of the movie.

Gladys Kravitz#1 talking to Gladys Kravitz#2 in the same scene.
It was difficult in trying to focus again on the film.
Which is a great film and I need to watch it again.

That's why producers won't hire these strong TV characters later on.

Sarah, Won't You Reconsider?

I was so hoping that she would implement a campaign for President.
But she has destroyed the inspiration for millions of us by deciding not to
run for President.
We were all looking forward to hear her attempt to debate any of the others
from her own party who might just have more than a 4th grade knowledge
of politics, history, geography and economics.
America really needed some political amusement and entertainment,
the likes that only she could provide.
Maybe the final GOP candidate can repeat the brilliance of John McCain
and put her on the ticket as Vice President.
And then again, maybe she will finally go back to Alaska and catch some fish
instead of putting on a 4-year charade which has become a long running
cartoon.
