Some People Think They Have Special Rights

A man in Michigan has filed a suit against the county he lives in over a Nativity scene which his family has placed in a public area of the street for the last 60 years. Last year, the county was advised that if the tradition continued that they would be the target of a First Amendment "separation of church and state" lawsuit. They informed the man that he would not be allowed to put up his Nativity scene ever again on a public street median owned by all members of the community. The man has decided that he apparently has special rights to force his religion on all members of the community.

Even though the community is made up of Christians, Muslims, Jews, Buddhists, Hindus, Atheists, Agnostics and those that want nothing to do with religion, the man feels that his religion should be given special treatment and forced upon all members of the public for the next two months as they have to drive by it. It's not good enough that he can place the 3-D depiction of his religious fantasies on the property of his own church, he believes that public property is the only place where it belongs.

I hereby demand that the true creator of the universe, the Flying Spaghetti Monster, be given the same special treatment that this man believes he is entitled to. I want this realistic painting of His Noodleness to be placed on the public street median in the town of Warren, Michigan immediately. For it is only the Flying Spaghetti Monster who loves all of mankind and causes them to be divinely inspired for truth, justice and the American way.



Should a court decide his way (I highly doubt that will happen), it will become necessary to demand equal space on the public street median in Warren, Michigan for the presence of the Flying Spaghetti Monster.

My Favorite Hoax

My Favorite Hoax played on the media goes back to 1976-77. Some of you might consider it more of idiotic behavior than a hoax, but it certainly fooled the #1 KABC Eyewitness News station.

At one minute to 4 or 5, I forget which, Jerry Dunphy announced with great enthusiasm, "The Beatles Are Getting Back Together!" the station went to a commercial and thousands of people were yelling with excitement as they waited for the news to start.

"The Beatles are Getting Back Together" said the smiling Dunphy as he told of how a promoter has gotten the legendary band back together for a concert tour and all the details would be available shortly as a press conference was about to begin. But KABC's Eyewitness News decided to get the story headline out before its competitors--the owned and operated CBS and NBC stations. Maybe they should have waited.

During the press conference, which was now filled with every TV, radio, newspaper and wire service in Los Angeles and foreign press, the promoter eagerly began the conference by stating that The Beatles were reforming for a worldwide concert tour.

The problem was that The Beatles were the only ones who didn't know anything about it.

The promoter continued. He announced that he had sent a telegram to each member of The Beatles. The wire that they each received told them that they would be reforming for a worldwide concert tour--and if he, the promoter, did not hear back from them immediately, he would assume that they automatically agree to participate.

When the press heard this foolishness, there was a big groan, cameras were turned off and the press started walking away.

By the 11'o clock KABC News, John Lennon, Paul McCartney and Ringo Starr had totally ignored the absurdity of the situation. But it was George Harrison who really got mad about this. Through his lawyer, George issued a statement to the promoter that basically said he declined the invitation and had never agreed to any such arrangement.

KABC, now looking very foolish, announced that The Beatles were not getting back together as they reported earlier and the terms the promoter laid out at the press conference. They even played a tape of them getting into the promoter's face, telling him, "do you realize how many people you have disappointed with this?"

I have always wondered if this nut really thought he was going to be taken seriously.

He's probably a Congressman now.

The grandson of Josef Stalin sued a Russian newspaper that he claims "libeled" his grandfather.

The range of how many people Stalin murdered stretches from 20-50 million.

The court threw out the case.

On the heels of our groundbreaking story which revealed that an American elementary school horrifyingly had its students singing a song of praise about the President of the United States, Fox News has learned that a brainwashing ritual is being performed every morning at yet another American public school.

Reportedly, students at Richard Nixon Elementary School in Yorba Linda, CA are gathered together every morning, told to face a red, white and blue piece of cloth, and recite some dangerous propaganda. Parents report that this clearly Satanic ritual further requires the impressionable youngsters to place their hands over their hearts before parroting the disturbing words.

The daily recitation requires the children to actually give their allegiance to some questionable entity. "Requiring innocent children to give their allegiance to anything is a Socialist plot of those disgusting liberals and Democrats" says Fox News' Sean Hannity. "This must be the latest plan by Barack Obama to indoctrinate America's schoolchildren."

Fox News has further learned that a Satanic "God" is even worshipped as part of the daily recitation. "They make us worship their God" as part of it said "Little Jimmy," whose real name has been changed for his protection. "I don't understand what they are making us say, but my mommy and daddy say that Fox News calls it bad--and they are always right."

Michael Moore's Newest Documentary

"Capitalism, A Love Story," is the newest documentary from Michael Moore. The film basically covers most of the things I have been talking about on here for the last year: The outlandish billion dollar taxpayer gifts handed to corporations--who then turn around and give executives millions of dollars in bonuses--while their companies are near bankruptcy. It does however present something historical that most Americans do not know anything about--the fact that President Roosevelt was working on a "Second Bill Of Rights" which promised all Americans equal right to jobs, homes, health care, education and a decent living. The film has the usual Moore stunts and will mostly be enjoyed by non-Republicans.

With her strong and sincere singing voice accompanied by the two men who also provided their unique folk sound, Mary and Peter and Paul did a great deal more than just perform.

They brought the idea of equality, civil rights and freedom for all Americans to everybody from 8 to 80.

When I first heard "If I Had A Hammer" back in 1962, I was nine years old.

European Newspapers and Tabloids were filled today with a story about a popular European candy and the sudden discovery that the product's wrappers can be interpreted in an "X"-Rated manner.

Maoam features a number of different wrappers that center on the playful activities of animated fruit characters.

After viewing the photos, it occurred to me to search for a similar American confectionery. I only found one--but does it ever compete! I'd say this mouth-melting M&M should be in the next issue of "PlayCandy."

At some time in your life, the chances are that you dealt with the crooks at Bank Of America.

It could have been over a loan, credit card, mortgage, savings account or checking account. And the chances are they tried to screw you over in some way whether it was regarding pennies or as in the their latest shenanigan, millions and billions of dollars.

Don't forget, you generously gave them free billions of dollars recently to make sure they would always be around.

And they got right to work! When they recently purchased Merill Lynch (with your hard earned tax money), they agreed that there would be no end-of-year bonuses at Lynch without their consent--but they had already agreed to $5 BILLION worth of bonuses that the company would pay out to its employees.

The SEC didn't like that. Bank of America, without admitting any guilt, has to pay $33 Million in penalties. YOU ARE PAYING THE $33 MILLION in what has become a shell game fueled by taxpayer handouts.

Bank of America has a legacy of corruption and unethical financial dealings--which it keeps the tradition going up to the minute.

Both the corrupt corporations like Bank of America and your government know that you have a limited attention span and you might be outraged for a few seconds--but you'll be back to more important things the next day--like unlocking the puzzle as to how many children Michael Jackson really has, or if Britney is in a manic or depressive mood today.

500 Days of Summer ***SPOILER***DO NOT READ UNLESS YOU'VE SEEN THE MOVIE ALREADY

The other night I attended a private screening of this film that many people are talking about--with the writer present to discuss it and answer questions.

If you like quirky relationship films like "Juno," you will enjoy this film.

After viewing the movie, the writer spoke about how it evolved and techniques used in its pacing, storytelling and other aspects of the film.

The audience had already taken in the entire story and a question was asked about the next to the last scene when the couple have their final meeting in the park.

***SPOILER***DO NOT READ FURTHER UNTIL AFTER YOU SEE THE MOVIE
The question which highly scrutinized this next to the last scene, because the sentiment of many people was that it should have ended there--and not gone on to one more scene--was answered in this way by the writer:
"How do you know that he didn't just imagine that whole scene? "

There was an "oooooooh" and "awwwww" throughout the audience because the writer's response creates a whole different perspective on the film's resolution of the two main characters--which had been assumed to be something else.

Now that you have hopefully already seen the film and have this additional piece of information--doesn't it make it so much sadder?

You May Wonder Why I Am Writing About "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang"

In 1969, I was 16. All I cared about then was my girlfriend, music, civil rights and seeing the war stop in Vietnam. I went with a bunch of friends to see "Chitty Chitty Bang Bang." All the new films were playing at the nearby naval base for $.25 and the children of naval personnel could bring friends. All we heard was that it was a "Mary Poppins" clone, so it couldn't be that bad. We left disappointed calling it "Shitty Shitty Bang Bang." With the war going on, it seemed out of touch and out of place. A sweet little musical needed an edge like "Hair." I never saw it again until tonight.

I didn't realize then that it was based on a book by a man named Ian Fleming, who had become fanous for a series of secret agent books that had turned into a worldwide hit film franchise called "James Bond-007." I didn't know that the screenplay was by some man named Roald Dahl who would soon also become known worldwide for movies based on his books like "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory." I didn't realize that Gert Frobe, who played "Goldfinger," was one of the main actors, playing a completely different character, so well, that it showed the artistry of the performer.

I did know that it starred Dick Van Dyke, who starred in "Mary Poppins" and the musical score was by Richard and Robert Sherman who also brought that musical to life.

The film starts out as an exact clone of "Mary Poppins" and other than some elaborately staged musical numbers, a haunting song called "Hushabye Mountain" and a decision to have Dick Van Dyke be the only one without an English accent (although he is the father of two very British children), it still seems very lacking.

But then it changes direction. A brilliant and comical political satire unfolds for the remainder of the film. While children on their level are just seeing silliness, clowning around and absurd antics--adults are seeing a comical commentary on totalitarianism, fascism and suffering.

16 year olds in 1969 grew up on Disney, Bozo and in an idealistic world. There would be no way they would recognize the underlying theme from Fleming, a man who worked in British Naval Intelligence during the war and was surrounded by the destruction of Nazis.

I think many baby boomers missed this one and should really give it a second chance--even if it is 40 years later.

The hundreds of reports that have estimated that Michael Jackson was $400 million in debt and have implied that his poor children will be penniless have not taken two very important factors into consideration.

1. The King of Pop used to spend $50,000. per day. Now that he is no longer spending $50,000. a day, the debt amount is not going to get larger and will eventually be paid off.
2. Jacko has an endless stream of income coming in even after his death. This includes millions of dollars annually from the Lennon-McCartney songs he owns the publishing rights to with Sony, his own record sales worldwide, the royalties and fees from his own publishing, the rights to license his image for everything from perfume to clothing, and every conceivable tie-in to the name and image of Michael Jackson. The kids will be all right.

America Needs A Dress Code

These days, Americans think they should be dressed for the beach at all times, no matter what the event or occasion. There was a time in Times Square when men and women would be fashionably dressed as a matter of dignity and pride. I knew those times would be gone in NYC but I was convinced that the tradition of dressing up for a Broadway play was still in existence. WRONG. An evening performance of "West Side Story" confirmed that. Hundreds of people dressed as if they were going to the beach filled the audience of the much-loved musical. I counted two men in sportcoats besides myself and a handful of dresses. I really think wearing shorts, t-shirts and other beach attire to what once stood for the height of art and culture in America--A Broadway Play--is tacky.

ED MCMAHON - WHAT YOU SAW IS WHAT YOU GOT

For 30 years Ed McMahon sat next to Johnny Carson and demonstrated a warm, calm, even-tempered friendly persona. And anybody who was around him says that he was exactly like that off-camera, all the time.

I can further verify that. He came on the live worldwide talk show I did for CompuServe/Yahoo in the late 1990's and was the perfect guest. I will always remember one thing he told me in particular. For many years he was the host of the annual NBC Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade with other guest hosts. He was outside in NYC and it was freezing--all live on air. He told me that it was so cold that the other on-camera guests were miserable and could hardly get through it.

Ed found a solution. He found a pair of heated socks which were connected to a battery. With socks heated--he was as warm as could be during the 3-hour broadcast. He told others and they thought it was silly. But he was the only one to make it through every year with no problem.

Somewhere I have a tape of him saying: "Heeeeerrrrrrrreeee's Eliooooooooootttt!"

In a world of showbiz craziness, he stood out as the perfect gentleman.

It's quite simple.

No U.S. President has ever had the guts to stand up for the American people in front of the AMA and demand that major changes be made on their behalf.

Doctors give big money to Congressmen, Senators and BOTH Political Parties.
The AMA and its interest groups and PACS do the same.

They have always controlled and influenced legislation that would hurt their big profits.

No U.S. President has ever messed with them--the American people suffer--and it's just too bad.

America remains the only industrialized nation that doesn't take care of its citizens' health.

Americans voted for CHANGE. This President is the first to actually attempt to follow through.

Can't Wait For A GM Car Made in China

With General Motors going bankrupt and Chrysler being purchased by Fiat, it's just a matter of time that these companies decide that the only way to make a profit is to flood America with cars they have built in China and place their name on them.

Sure, GM can last a few more months with their newest $30 Billion Entitlement courtesy of U.S. citizens, but they are going to have to eventually create a plan to make profits.

Pretty much the only way for them to do this is to make a product for much less than they sell it for. That's not going to happen in America. So they are going to have to turn to America's supplier of everything except for cars -- China.

It can't be any worse than some of the cars GM has made for the last 30 years that have driven buyers to the Japanese market. Of course, the Japanese believe in quality control and high standards when they make a product. China's manufacturing philosophies are not quite on par yet with their Japanese neighbor.

My biggest concern is that when cars come from China, will there be a "Made In China" label stamped somewhere on the vehicle? It just will seem a bit tacky on an automobile.

I've lived through 11 Presidents. I've decided to rate them overall.
I have not included Eisenhower because I was only paying attention to the Mickey Mouse Club and WGN's children shows at the time.

NOTES IN ORDER:
JFK-what he could have accomplished is beyond imagination;

LBJ-would have had a much lower rating because of his escalation of the Vietnam War--but his Civil Rights efforts were extraordinary;

Nixon-His administration was a nightmare. 1968-1972 in America was like living in a parallel dimension.

Ford-Nothing to say good or bad except he should have let Nixon be tried for high crimes. It would have made 1974 and 1975 (the most boring years ever) more entertaining.

Carter-When you're the President during the Disco era, you know people are having a good time again.

Reagan-His very high score is not in error--his standing up against the Soviet military buildup and challenge to them to knock down the Berlin Wall was astounding.

Bush Sr.-A sense of fascism lite started permeating America. Apparently runs in the family.

Clinton-How could you not like the Clinton years?

Bush Jr.-I'm a gentleman and will not say a word.

Obama-He came into the middle of the mess left behind by the man above and has given us hope.

Arnold's Finally Thinking Like A Republican

California's Superstar Governor today announced he wants to eliminate welfare for 500,000 families, stop health care for one million children and stop financial assistance for needy college students.

Arnold's "special election" issues he held a few weeks ago were all voted down by voters, just like the last time he called for a special election and the same thing happened.

Don't you get it Arnold? They voted you in just because it was cool to have a movie action superstar as Governor. Otherwise, they won't support anything that you want.

Maybe you ought to give some additional serious thought to your idea about taxing the growing, distribution and sale of marijuana. It's the only thing left to tax in California.

And you are well experienced in that lifestyle.

Do Your Kids Even Know What Today Is About?

They came home from a long and dreary war, millions of them (minus the 400,000 who didn't make it) and the amazing thing is they never complained. They had seen horrors beyond comprehension, and were able to shake it off. Instead they started families, went to school, started businesses and dedicated their lives to their own families--holding up a promise of safety, security and normalcy for the future.
They asked for nothing in return and immersed themselves into fitting into and leading American society again.

And then they had the baby boomers. A generation who grew up experiencing peace and prosperity. A generation that believed that freedom was free. All you had to do was think that and everybody else in the world would go along with it. When these baby boomers rebelled against their parent's materialism and mediocrity, they would soon be taking to the streets to protest a war in SouthEast Asia, tearing our country apart from 1967-1972.

Then those baby boomers had kids. And even some of those kids have already had kids.
And there is something in common between the kids of baby boomers and their kids as well.

They simply deserve everything--regardless of cost--they are number one! What child does not deserve every new video game system that comes along that costs hundreds of dollars? And computers, brand new cars, cell phones, mp3 players, the newest wardrobe, newest TVs and audio equipment, DVDs, CDs, sporting equipment, vacations and every other luxury they are all entitled to! Some of the luckier ones are even given new starter homes as they deserve only the best!

As we pause and enjoy the free day we are all getting--Memorial Day--ask some of the kids what its all about. Ask them what would have happened if 400,000 Americans had not made the ultimate sacrifice in 1941-1945. And if a crazy man had been allowed to conquer the world--would they be playing their new video game systems today?

Parents--there are rumors that Apple might come out with the ultimate game system. You need to start saving. The kids will absolutely need the newest system available. And they deserve it.

All 1965 Mustangs Headed For The Junkyard?

If you appreciate the last standing icon of American prosperity, ingenuity and dignity--the American Classic Car--that you see less and less of these days--you'll understand why so many people who love them are quite upset today.

In California and a number of other states, there have been legislative attempts over the last 15 years to get rid of any car older than 20 years old. Legislation that would make owners of older cars pass smog and emission checks yearly have been knocked down on an ongoing basis.
How can a 1965 Mustang, which was manufactured when no pollution equipment existed, suddenly be expected to be retrofitted with smog and emission hardware? It can't.
So various states want to see it junked instead. And many have started "cash for junkers" programs where Big Brother pays you a few hundred dollars to scrunch your car in the junk yard.

A California bill is now pending yet again that would look at all cars 20 years and older as worthless junk that need yearly emission tests regardless if it is a pristine rebuilt 1965 Mustang or a decrepit 1982 Toyota Corolla that is still hanging in there. Classic Car special interest groups have banded together to try and again defeat this threatening legislation.

But the big concern came early today. It's not what President Obama said about new federal automobile emission standards (instead of varying state standards) that has classic car folks concerned.

It's what he didn't say. Yet.

Bills in Congress are already prepared to create a national "cash for junkers" program.

What if these new Federal standards call for smog/emission tests on a yearly basis for every car over 20 years old? And there is no way for Classic American Cars to pass these tests? Will a Federal Towing Squad be formed to come and drag your restored 1965 Mustang to the junkyard in the middle of the night?

Before you think this is some exaggeration, think again.
It could happen to "save the planet."
